Jeanie Marie Buss is an American businesswoman. She is the President and owner-controller of the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association. Buss comes originally from California, was raised in an extremely wealthy family. Jerry Buss was her father. Jerry Buss started out as a realty business tycoon and then later owned the Lakers. Her parents parted ways in 1972 and she began to feel that she was emotionally neglected. When she was 19 years old, she joined the family's business as general manager for the Los Angeles Strings professional tennis team. The team was later renamed in the Los Angeles Blades, a professional team of roller hockey. In the beginning, she was vice-president of the Lakers before she assumed the presidency of the Great Western Forum. Her father died in 2013, and his control over control of the Lakers was inherited by Buss as well as her siblings via a trust for the family which gave each sibling an equal vote.
